Friday Fiver: All things literary

What are the titles of the last three books you read?

I read avidly. As in at least a book a day. Maybe more if I have a day off or if I'm not immersed in writing. The last three novels I read were the following:

01) Beverly Barton - After Dark. It always boggles my mind that so many female crime writers start off as romance writers. I guess in some ways it goes hand in hand because a lot of the companies like Harlequin and Silhouette have their own brand of romance mixed with suspense serials. It's never just a straight romance these days. Then there's the fact a lot of female crime writers tend to find time within their novel to incorporate a romance with the lead Detective, an FBI agent or Profiler. Yeah, I've read way too much female crime writers and romance.
This is the first novel in the Griffin Powell series and I was so excited to read it. I fell into the author by accident - as it always happens and I'd recommend her to anyone who likes good writing and a plausible storyline.

02) Ilona Andrews - Magic Slays - This is part of the magic series. I only can say please, please, please read it if you like all things supernatural and kick ass strong female characters. O.K, it's not going to hurt that there is an equally strong and sexy male character Curran. Forget the fact he's a shift-shaper who turns into a wild cat. Err...if you want to forget that little factor. Nevertheless, this husband and wife writing team write superbly. Their dialogue is witty, their plot extremely well written and they're guaranteed to leave you craving more.

03) Julie Kagawa - The Iron Knight - There are few novels I physically yearn to get my grubby little hands on. I try to hold my excitement inside because the last time I got excited about a novel, it was the Cassandra Clare series and I was eagerly waiting The Mortal Instruments novel. I was excited until I read it. Then I was just bitterly, bitterly disappointed. To the point I wanted to burn the book and demand my 45 minutes of solid reading back. However, The Iron Knight does not disappoint. In fact, it gets better with time and left me clutching the book to my chest and sighing deeply. Yeah, I'm a sucker for a good novel. It's part of the Iron Fey series and the last of the series - that I know of. Just go read it if you want a damn good emotional ride, exceptional plot and like all things fairies.

What are the titles of between three and five magazines you subscribe to or used to subscribe to?

I am a self confessed news junkie. Some people go for entertainment on news sites. I go to the world news. Ok, that and the music section but hello, music Journalist peoples!
I don't really subscribe to physical magazines but more so read onlin although I did use to subscribe to rollingstone, time, metal edge, and life magazine. Now I just scan them onlineand subscribe to the newsfeeds of Nathan Bransford, Susane Colasanti, Sarah Dessen, and L.J Boldyrev.

 What’s on your night table?

Half full cup of coffee, biros, notepad and books. A stack of books still to bed read in hardback copy. Ones I have not gotten around to reading since I got my kindle. Must read those books.

What are the three best things that happened to you in the past seven days?

I got my creative muse back and she's been kicking ass.

What was your senior yearbook quote, and what would your yearbook quote be this year if there were such a thing?

Most likely to: blow up the school.

Inside joke, I used to always say I'd like to set that place on fire. The only time I was happy there was in Literature and English classes. I loathed high school and most the people that came with it.

Yearbook quote - she came, she saw, she kicked some literary ass.
