1. What was the last book you read?
I've been reading a lot of romance novels lately. It's been a while since I read them, but I've been toying with the idea of writing one so I figured I better start reading a few to get the feel of them again. Part of me wants to write a romance to see if I can actually do it. I already have a few ideas playing around inside my head and a family dynasty, I want to write about. They're a bunch of heroes and heroines that may or may not fit into my crime novels but I'm tempted to add a twist of romance to the flavor.
The last novel I read was by Leslie Kelly and it was called Play with Me. I've spent the day reading Leslie Kelly's novels and one thing I like about her is that she is diverse. Her stories aren't the same mundane formulas that often make you recognize a writer because they are the same old, same old story lines. Believe it or not, just like you can tell a band by their sound, you can tell a writer by her/his storyline.
2. What book(s) are you reading now?
Currently nothing, but I have about 7000 to choose from. I'm going to finish off reading the other Leslie Kelly novels I own before I switch to something else. I'm thinking horror next to get out of romance mode. Any suggestions, anyone?
3. Do you have a library card? Do you use it?
No, shame on me. I used to belong to the local library and they have just completed an extension to it. I need to check it out. I should visit the library more often. It'd be cheaper than buying the books I buy.
4. How do you choose a new book to read?
You know we are often told not to judge a book by it's cover? Well, I sometimes do. Sometimes the cover of a book will grab my attention. Other times it will be the back of a novel. At the moment I sort of have a list in my head of books I've bought and can't wait to read.
I rarely ever listen to reviews simply because I know one person's opinion is not necessarily going to be the same. If truth be told, sometimes a review can mar a person's opinion and I always like to find out for myself. Having said this, I can't wait to read the latest Stephen King simply because friends have raved about how wonderful it is.
5. We all had to read books in school. Which was your favorite? Your least favorite? Do you think you would feel differently about them if you read them now?
Favorite book of mine was All the Pretty Horses. I was blown away by Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy. It's a beautiful but dark series. It was the first time I came across a writing style such as his where there are no quotation marks.
I just fell in love with the story (and was equally shattered by the disaster of the movie, which resulted in an instant dislike for Penelope Cruz I have never been able to shake.)
Least Favorite was Wuthering Heights. Don't get me wrong, I love periodicals and classics but this novel (along with Heart of Darkness) made me loathe everything classical. To me Heathcliff was a psycho and Cathy needed a real good bitchslap. If there were two people in literature that deserved each other more, it was these two.
I did read these two novels recently. All the Pretty Horses I still love and I still loathe, detest and abhor Wuthering Heights. Don't get me wrong, there is no doubt it's a wonderfully written novel, especially since it brings forth such an intense dislike for the characters but I still will never consider it a favorite novel of mine.
